Brief Coalition History:

The all-volunteer White Mountain Coalition Against Meth Abuse began in Autumn 2003 to educate the communities and heighten awareness of the impact of drugs, methamphetamine in particular. A total of $50,000 state grant funds were attained in 2006 and 2007, for coalition building and meth-awareness. A coalition coordinator was hired in 2007 to structure and oversee the organization Education, outreach and town halls were the strategy for delivering drug awareness to the community. Barriers to the group efforts included: a) extremely limited resources for personnel, money and time from an all-volunteer coalition; b) projects addressed the awareness level of community involvement in drugs; c) vast differences in needs of a wide geographic area; and d) limited community buy-in to work with the coalition members. A 501c3 formed in July 2007 enables the coalition to raise funds through its “Friends of the Coalition” non-profit affiliate.
